sinc ethey opened the higher stakes NL tables on party, i had become convinced that the play at the 3/6 NL was actually tougher than the 5/10. a good 1000 hands yesterday at the 3/6 dispelled that myth for me nicely. the thing i love about party is that they have so many ways of giving money back to bad players – all those massive sat. tournaments to bigger buyin multis and the bad beat jackpot and deposit bonuses. it’s like christmas all year.
still loving ub. however, i kind of hate software like ub and true Hasil HK Hari Ini that forces you to sit at the bottom of a table. i’m sure ub has an option for reversing this [i know true doesn’t]. i don’t like the mini-view from ub, too easy to overlook things when i’m playing a lot of tables.
finally did a huge hand dump into Hasil HK Hari Ini if somehow you don’t own pokertracker yet, go get it. gametimeplus is a worthy addition as well. found about 30k hands on my hard drive from cryptologic and party that i had forgotten to log. i really wish there was a “summarize and print” utility in PT so that i could just grab the stack of info and go to get food with it.
on the site side, aaron and i have been working on some articles about using PT – we also came across a PT e-book that we’ll be prinitng some excerpts from once we get the details worked out with the authors, so look out for that. also came across texansforpoker, a poker activist site pushing for legalization in texas. it looks like they’re doing some work, tho the ads are a little annoying. check it out.
we’ve been kicking around the idea of expanding ptp to include a central resource section for people interested in the legal status of poker. look for more on that once summer hits.
road to the wsop
since the wsop starts later this year, i can actually go; in the past it’s conflicted with work. i’m certainly not ponying up the 10k to enter, so i decided to half-heartedly pursue the popular way to get in – win a crappy online satellite! i’ve decided to allocate a decent chunk to this pursuit, and it begins today with the interpoker 150. it’s not a bad deal, they are guaranteeing 6 packages, each package including a buyin to the amin event, 2k and 9 days at the rio. only 410 players in the tournament, so top six are getting the package. there’s a nice overlay as they don’t count the hotel as part of the cost of each package + they’re about 60 players short of the guarantee.
my tournament game is pretty subpar; i’ve never really had the time or inclination to focus there since i enjoy ring a lot more (plus ring play just makes more intuitive sense to me). so why would i waste time trying to qualify for the wsop?
i’m not sure. playing multis at all is a definite leak in my game. i don’t keep strict records on them since i split them with other people a lot, but if i had to guess, i’d put myself solidly in the negative overall [SNG’s are a different story]. i even think multis are kind of illegitimate when compared to ring, given the increased role of luck in the proceedings. honestly, i work my ass off to reduce the impact of luck in my ring games by keeping strong book on players, using PT, thinking critically about my own play, avoiding marginal situations etc … why would i rationally consider throwing myself fully into a situation where luck is a dominating factor in the outcome?
still not sure. silly pride, i guess. they don’t post your name anywhere when you run up a 6x buyin stack at a NL table.
